True Blue:Denim 101

Finding a great pair of blue jeans is like finding a best friend. They are supportive and bring out the best in you. Both can be difficult to find but once you do the reward is well worth the effort. Luckily my favorite pair of jeans from Levi do not break the bank. I have tried many brands and I always end up wearing my Levi's they are comfortable yet supportive.
Regardless of your size or shape selecting a pair of jeans that brings out your inner confidence is key.

Denim 101

Low-rise: Rise refers to the distance from the crotch seam to the top of the waistband. Traditionally low rise jeans extend about two - three inches below the belly button.

Boot-cut: This style is designed specifically to fit over and accommodate a pair of boots. This style is straight through the leg, with a slight flair at the bottom.

Flare Or Bell Bottom: This style is making a come back and was seen in increasing number on he runways this season during N.Y.F.W. The  featured design element of this cut is that the jean is narrower in the knee than a boot-cut design, flares are also slightly wider at the bottom, for a dramatic shape.

Skinny: This current trendy style is fitted in the leg all the way to the ankle. This denim fabric contains a bit more stretch than traditional denim in order to adhere to the body providing a form fitted look. As a  result skinny jeans are known to stretch and need to be washed more often then other styles in order to retain their unique shape.

Straight Leg: Straight leg jeans are the same width from knee down to bottom hem. They are slightly different from a trouser jean as they have a slimmer fit.

*Now various retailers have their own creative branding to describe their denim however, generally speaking *most jeans fall into the afore mentioned styles.

  1. I always have a struggle with jeans. I have very thin legs, but I need a size 9/10 in the waist. Which means the legs always run baggy. Levis tend to fit me really well, but I love American Eagle's jegging line. Very true to size and on sale you can snag them for about $20-$30 bucks!

  12. I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but I only recently started wearing jeans again. I gained some weight before starting college and had trouble maintaining a steady weight so I used to just wear leggings and stretchy pants, but since graduating I've embraced my body more and have wanted to really invest in some great jeans. I've been wearing J.Crew, but look to invest in some J Brand or Rag & Bone jeans, but these Levi's look amazing on you so I might have to check them out as well. This was such a great and informative post and I'm so excited to try the wide-leg jean trend! You look fabulous and I love the leather jacket and your smile is beautiful!

    1. Linda,

Let me start by saying thank you for sharing. I’m not sure if you have read my “About Me” page but I myself have been a variety of weights, shapes, and sizes. About five years ago was when I decided to focus on my health and weight loss I needed to loose 200+ LBS. So I can truly identify with wardrobe difficulties. I think it is awesome that you are embracing your body. Confidence is key! Thanks again for your kind words and sharing a bit of your life journey!

  19. Thinking you look so cute in this outfit! I love the handbag and the jeans are perfect! I love my skinny leg jeans. But, my issue is needing to gain about 20 pounds. I'm having trouble gaining back the weight unintentionally lost, due to COPD. Thanks for your reviews, articles, and giveaways!

  20. You look great in those jeans. I can hardly ever find a pair of skinny jeans that I like. And then when I do I can't find shoes that look good with them. So I usually stick to boot cut or flair legged ones.
